Mitchell & Titus Completes Merger of Chicago Accounting Firm Hill Taylor LLC
NEW YORK February 17, 2009 —the nation’s largest minority-controlled accounting firm, has entered into the Chicago market. Effective February 1, 2009, Hill Taylor LLC, one of the oldest and most respected minority accounting firms in Chicago, merged its practice into Mitchell & Titus.
Hill Taylor has served the Chicago market for over 35 years under the direction of its founder and chairman, James “Jim” Hill, Jr., and partner Kenneth Yu. Jim has stated that Mitchell & Titus’ reputation for quality, client service and staff development was the core reason he concluded that Mitchell & Titus was the right organization for a merger.
Bert N. Mitchell, founder and chairman of Mitchell & Titus, has maintained a close professional relationship with Jim for almost 40 years. Over the years, they have discussed the possibility of combining their practices. After Mitchell & Titus became a member firm of Ernst & Young Global Limited (EYG) in 2006, Bert and Jim began to accelerate their discussions, leading to the merger.
“The Hill Taylor merger will allow Mitchell & Titus to continue to expand its geographic reach and serve the needs of national clients,” said Mitchell & Titus CEO Anthony S. Kendall. “Hill Taylor has developed a significant practice in the government, not-for-profit, and employee benefits arenas over the last 35 years and we are delighted that Jim Hill, his partner, Kenneth Yu, and their staff have joined the Mitchell & Titus family.”
This was Mitchell & Titus’ second merger in the last four years. In 2005, Mitchell & Titus merged with Frye, Williams & Company, a New Jersey-based firm. As a result of the current merger, Mitchell & Titus now has offices in New York, Rutherford (NJ), Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and Chicago.
Jim Hill, who will be serving as Mitchell & Titus’ Chicago office managing partner added, “Mitchell & Titus’ vast knowledge and resources on the East Coast combined with a Chicago presence now gives us the resources necessary to expand our services to present and future clients.”
